Does Secure Backup and Share support external drives?

Yes, Secure Backup and Share supports drives that Windows recognizes as "fixed." Secure Backup and Share does not support "unfixed" removable drives such as DVD/CD-ROMs, media cards and some thumb or flash drives.

You can tell if your drive is "fixed" by doing the following:

  1. Click Start Menu, then click My Computer.

"Fixed" drives appear under Hard Disk Drives while unfixed drives appear under Devices with Removable Storage.

  2. If you do not see these sections, click View > Arrange Icons by > Show in Groups .

If your external drive is not "fixed," first copy the data onto one of your "fixed" drives, then select the data for back up.

Important: If you have selected files from an external drive to be part of your regular backup and you unplug or turn off the drive while your backup is running, Secure Backup and Share detects that the files are gone and assumes that you no longer need them. Those files are then marked for deletion. After 30 days, the files are deleted from our servers and you are no longer able to get them back. However, if you reconnect the drive and run a back up, Comcast identifies the files, cancels the deletions and saves them in your backup set. Only files that have changed need to be backed up again.
